SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will look to keep the momentum rolling as they are set to face Wichita State on Saturday at noon in the Convocation Center. The 'Runners will eye a 5-0 start to conference play for the first time since the 1983-84 campaign while celebrating Family Day / Alumni Day. Additionally, the contest will serve as the women's basketball Meep Meep Peeps event, and members of the program will receive entry free of charge by claiming their tickets in their account managers.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (13-2, 4-0 The American) extended their best start in program history last time out, working a 67-58 victory over Rice. The win stretched UTSA's winning streak to six, and it was the team's ninth consecutive win in The Convo, dating back to Feb. 25, 2024. The 'Runners also became 4-0 in league play for the first time since accomplishing the feat as a member of the Southland in 2001-02.
UTSA erased a nine-point deficit and took their first lead of the game in the fourth, thanks to significant contributions by redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins and graduate student Nina De Leon Negron. Jenkins charted 21 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in the win, while De Leon Negron scored 19 to go with eight boards and five assists.
The Shockers (7-10, 1-3 The American) took down UAB 82-70 for their first conference victory of the season before falling to South Florida 72-46 last time out.
WSU is one of the deepest teams in the league, with 22.6 points off their bench, leading The American. Jayla Murray tops the team with 12.4 PPG coming at an incredibly efficient 54.8% clip, and Salese Blow is not far behind with 11.9 PPG. Bre'yon White commands the boards, securing 5.4 RPG, and Taylor Jameson has dished out a squad-high 45 assists. Defensively, Jameson leads the way with 21 steals and Aicha Ndour has recorded 15 blocks.
