Roadrunners fall in season opener

ARLINGTON, Texas— The Roadrunners fall 5-0 to UT Arlington in season opener on Friday, Feb. 14 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

THE BASICS:

Starting pitcher Zach Royse and the defense behind him played an excellent first five innings until UT Arlington’s bats came alive, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth on three RBI singles to go up 3-0 over the Roadrunners.

Sam Simmons came into relief to close out the bottom of the sixth. Royse closed his day out with 5.2 innings pitched, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five.

The Mavericks added two more runs to extend their lead to 5-0 in the seventh on an RBI double and an RBI single.

With two innings left to play, the Roadrunners were unable to put a run across the board. Simmons closed out the game for UTSA, notching 2.1 innings pitched, allowing two runs and striking out four.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-Norris McClure had his first multi-hit game with the Roadrunners going 2-3
-Mason Lytle went 1-4 on the day.
-Lorenzo Morresi went 1-3 with a double to left center.
