UTSA falls to SLU on final day of Lion Classic

The Roadrunners will look to bounce back against TAMUCC on Tuesday

HAMMOND, La. – The UTSA softball team suffered a 4-0 setback at the hands of Southeastern Louisiana at North Oak Park on Sunday, representing the final contest of the 2025 Lion Classic.

The Roadrunners (7-3) fell to the Lions (8-3) despite an impressive start from junior Katia Reyes (2-1), who tossed four scoreless innings before SLU broke through in the fifth. Meanwhile, Britney Lewinski (1-1) earned the Lions' win.

Reyes fanned six over 4.1 innings, scattering four hits and allowing just two earned runs. Sophomore Meredith Schmitt also featured in the circle, allowing one hit across 1.2 frames.

At the plate, freshman Sabrina Wick, senior Jaylen Prichard and sophomore Kalee Rochinski all logged hits, with Wick legging out a double.

A pitcher's duel was carried into the bottom of the fifth, and a walk was followed by back-to-back singles and an error for a 3-0 SLU advantage.

Wick led off the following frame with her two-bagger, but Lewinski clamped down, inducing three consecutive groundouts to escape the inning. The Lions added another insurance run in the home half courtesy of a triple and an RBI groundout.

The ‘Runners were unable to break through in the top of the seventh, as a three-up, three-down inning cemented the SLU victory.

UTSA will now focus on a midweek bout at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before hosting the Roadrunner Classic this weekend in San Antonio.
