About the Roadrunners
After a 3-1 start to the season, the UTSA Roadrunners are battling back from a four-match slide against tough opposition from Oregon, Texas Tech, Florida Atlantic and Wichita State – with a pair of final point third-set setbacks and another at a 4-2 loss in that stretch. UTSA holds one pair in the doubles national ITA rankings, as Miguel Alonso and Tiago Torres come in at 77th in the national standings and the pair are 2-0 through the early spring season. Torres also entered the national singles rankings at 103rd in the Feb. 20 announcement from the ITA, holding a 4-2 record on the year. Pacing the Roadrunners in wins is senior Danijal Muminovic, who was runner-up at the American Athletic Conference Individual Championships in the fall – entering the weekend at 5-2 on court two. Newcomer Oskar Grzegorzewski on court three matches Torres with a 4-2 record.
About the Boise State Broncos
This will be the second matchup between the Roadrunners and the Broncos, the first in 2019 when Boise State hosted UTSA with a 4-0 win in Boise. The Broncos were 20-11 last season and reached the NCAA tournament after winning the Mountain West Championships. In 2025, the Broncos are 7-3 entering the weekend and ranked 29th nationally.
About the Arizona State Sun Devils
If both squads advance in the winner’s bracket, these teams will meet for the first time on Saturday. Last season, the Sun Devils were 18-10 and reached the NCAA tournament with a 4-3 first-round win over No. 38 Georgia to advance, despite an early exit from the Pac-12 Championships. In 2025, Arizona State is 5-5 and hold a No. 41 ITA ranking, with four losses to top-25 squads, including No. 1 Texas in Austin.
About the Liberty Flames
If both teams advance in the winner’s bracket, Saturday will mark the second meeting between these programs, the last coming in San Antonio in March 2015 – the Roadrunners registering a 6-1 victory at the UTSA Tennis Center. Liberty went 18-9 in 2024, ending the year with a No. 56 national ranking. That squad played in the UTR Sports NIT Championship after being eliminated by top-seeded Middle Tennessee from the Conference USA Championships, defeating North Alabama but falling to second-seeded Pacific. In 2025, the Flames are off to a 3-6 start with ranked losses to No. 20 Princeton, No. 37 Yale, No. 43 Michigan State and No. 58 Dartmouth.
