SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will have a jam-packed Saturday at the Convocation Center as they honor Jordyn Jenkins and Nina De Leon Negron for Senior Day at 11:40 a.m. before taking on Florida Atlantic at noon for the final home game of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Roadrunner faithful are eyeing a new single-game attendance record on Saturday, with the previous mark of 2,000 fans coming in 1991 against SMU. As a bonus, April Ancira has generously agreed to donate $5 for every person in attendance to the UTSA Women's Basketball program for a total donation of more than $10,000, and Harvey Najim has agreed to match.
The first 850 fans in The Convo will receive a free rally towel upon entry thanks to Cowboys Air Conditioning and Heating, and while supplies last, a limited edition "Last Dance" themed poster is available, presented by Wendy's. Additionally, there will be free pizza for students and the squad will celebrate its recently clinched American Athletic Conference regular-season championship at the conclusion of the contest.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (24-3, 15-1 The American) used a 77-73 victory over Tulane on Tuesday and league results Wednesday to guarantee at least a share of the regular-season title. UTSA has previously won four regular-season titles, accomplishing the feat twice in the Southland (2002-03 & 2008-09) and twice in the Oil Country Athletic Conference (1983-84 & 1984-95). A win on Saturday would hand the 'Runners an outright championship and secure the No. 1 seed in the American Women's Basketball Championship. Lastly, if UTSA takes down FAU, they'll have a program-record 25th win on the campaign.
Against the Green Wave, Jenkins dominated with 24 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double. Junior Sidney Love and Jenkins tied for a game-high four steals, and Jenkins also swatted two of the opposition's shots on the defensive end. Sophomore Aysia Proctor scored 16 off the bench for a season-high, with Love not far behind at 14. Classmate Idara Udo finished two rebounds from a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.
The Owls (10-19, 2-14 The American) will look to snap a six-game skid, last overcoming Rice on Feb. 1. Mya Perry paces the squad offensively with 15.3 PPG, and she's also swiped 39 steals. Erin Rodgers and Jada Moore join her in averaging double-digit points, with Rodgers at 12.0 PPG and Moore at 11.2. Stefanie Ingram runs the offense with 140 assists on her ledger, while Ta'Ziah Jenks commands the glass with 5.4 rebounds per game.
