UTSA stuns #2 Texas A&M in mid-week contest

COLLEGE STATION, Texas— The UTSA Roadrunners take down #2 Texas A&M 7-4 in mid-week bout on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at Blue Bell Park in College Station. 

THE BASICS:
Score: UTSA 7, Texas A&M 4
Records: UTSA (12-3), Texas A&M (6-5)
Location: Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park
Win: Robert Orloski (4-0) | Loss: Weston Moss (1-1)

Starting pitcher James Hubbard walked the first batter he saw, a hit by the Aggies three-hole hitter advanced him to third, another walk loaded the bags. The Aggies managed to take the lead on an RBI single. Hubbard escaped the first giving up just one run.

The Aggies added another run in the second with a solo home run.

Andrew Stucky led off the top of the third with a hit-by-pitch. Caden Miller then hit a single for UTSA’s first hit of the game. Mason Lytle grounded out to the Aggies’ third baseman putting Miller and Stucky into scoring position. Norris McClure then plated the Roadrunners first run on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Stucky.

Hubbard came out of the game in the fourth, he finished with 3.0 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Robert Orloski was the arm called upon to relieve Hubbard.  

The Roadrunners managed to take the lead in the fourth as Andrew Detlefsen led the inning off on a hit-by-pitch. He was then out at second as Ty Hodge reached on a fielder’s choice. Jordan Ballin was hit by another pitch, advancing T. Hodge to second. Both Ballin and T. Hodge advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. The College Station, Texas native Nathan Hodge then singled to centerfield, allowing Ballin and T. Hodge to score, putting the Roadrunners up 3-2.

In the top of the fifth, McClure was the first Roadrunner on as he reached on a fielding error. James Taussig then singled, advancing McClure to third. Detlefsen got a hold of his first hit of the day to score McClure. T. Hodge was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Ballin was the next Roadrunner up as he hit a bases clearing double down the left-field line. Ballin now has two games with two RBIs in his career.

Orloski had an outstanding outing as he pitched 4.0 innings giving up just two runs, all unearned, and striking out one batter to earn himself the win. Braylon Owens was tonight’s closer coming into the ballgame in the eighth, Owens tossed two perfect innings, striking out one batter on his way to get the save.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- This was the Roadrunners’ second victory when they are out-hit by their opponent.
- UTSA is now on an 11-game winning streak.
- The Roadrunners are outscoring their opponents 129-53.
- Ballin and Hodge both had two RBIs on the game for their second multi-RBI game of the season.
- The Roadrunners are 4-0 when they score 6-9 runs in a game.
- UTSA is 4-0 in night games.
- Owens earned the first UTSA save of the season.
