IRVING, Texas – UTSA women’s track and field underclassmen Mia Lien and Ida Breigan both contributed stellar individual performances at last week’s American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The Roadrunners’ Norwegian duo contributed 36 points toward UTSA’s AAC Runner-Up total of 92.5 points. For their efforts, league officials announced on Thursday that the pair will share the honor of 2025 AAC Women’s Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performance. In addition, their performances have earned both a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships.
A rookie from Jakobsli, Norway, Lien got the Roadrunners’ weekend off to a promising start in the pentathlon, surging to the front of the field with a UTSA-record clearance of 1.83 meters (6-0) in the pent high jump, breaking her own mark from earlier in the season and handily winning the event section. Lien also earned an event section win in the long jump at 6.11m (20-0.5) and was second in the 800m at 2:18.13. Accumulating a meet-winning 4,194 points, she edged out Ryanne Dupree’s 2006 NCAA Championships total by one point to become the new standard-bearer and win the AAC pentathlon title. Returning to action on the second day of the meet, Lien collected the silver medal in the individual high jump with a 1.79m (5-10.5) height.
Repeating as both event champion and the league’s Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performance honoree, Fredrikstad, Norway sophomore Breigan delivered a dominant win in the women’s long jump. Topping second-place teammate Oreoluwa Adamson by 0.4m, Breigan leapt a 6.53m (21-5.25) season best to earn her second-consecutive AAC Indoor gold and win her fifth straight long jump event of the year. Additionally, though not factored into the award, Breigan anchored UTSA’s silver-medal 4x400m relay to a school record 3:36.32, alongside teammates Selma Ims, Shadae Findley and Fatoumata Kabo.
Both athletes’ next move is to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 14-15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Coming out of the conference indoor, Breigan ranks 13th nationally in the NCAA with her AAC mark. Making her first NCAA postseason appearance, Lien is also 13th in the nation in the pentathlon via her AAC score.
Last season as a freshman, Breigan earned first-team All-America honors on her sixth-place measurement of 6.38m (20-11.25) at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston.
