SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team will open American Athletic Conference play on Friday at 6 p.m. as they are set to host East Carolina. The squads will meet once more on Saturday at noon, ahead of the finale Sunday at 11 a.m.
All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Alex Loeb (play-by-play) and Cat Osterman (analyst) on the call.
The Roadrunners (12-7) enter league play with their best record since going 13-8 before a shortened season in 2020.
They last went 3-2 at the Birds Up Bash with victories over Houston and Le Moyne while falling to the Cougars and No. RV Boise State.
The Pirates (12-7) maintain an identical record to the ‘Runners and split at the Tiger Invitational before besting Michigan last time out.
ECU leads The American in home runs on the season, mashing 21 and an average of just over one per game, and is 38th in the NCAA. They also top the conference with a .511 slugging percentage and a 2.26 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which is second.
Kanisha Anderson ranks 15th nationally with a .509 batting average, and three triples on the year are 16th. Nobody on the team launches more long balls than Morgan Johnson, who’s seen seven leave the park. Anna Sawyer, meanwhile, boasts an on-base percentage of .576, slotting her 26th in the NCAA.
In the circle, the Pirates have a 1.31 WHIP that sits just behind Florida Atlantic for the league lead, and the staff holds a 3.02 ERA. Taylor Apple and Kendall Frost are tied with a team-high five wins, and each team has two saves.
