UTSA competes at Texas Invitational this week in Austin

SAN ANTONIO – Fresh off providing big performances in California at the 65th Mt. SAC Relays, the UTSA track and field teams head back to Austin on a short week, taking in competition at the Texas Invitational, Thursday, April 24 - Friday, April 25, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The UTSA women’s team remains in the top 50 nationally, earning a 45th ranking in this week’s standings. A big boost toward that ranking comes from the long jumps event squad, which is at No. 2 in the nation for the fourth consecutive week. The Roadrunners also are boasting the men’s track and women’s field American Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in Hugo Menin and Rachela Pace. Menin ran a school second-best 49.77 to earn second in the 400m hurdles. Meanwhile, Pace also registered the second-best triple jump on a silver-medal 13.05m (42-9.75) leap.

Like much of the outdoor season, Mia Lien leads the Roadrunners in the national rankings, putting together a 5,741-point heptathlon performance for fifth in the NCAA, in addition to a school-record, ninth-NCAA 1.83m (6-0) high jump and 32nd-ranked 6.30m (20-8) in the long jump. Ida Breigan leads UTSA’s long jump squad at 16th nationally on 6.37m (20-10.75), ahead of Oreoluwa Adamson in 38th at 6.27m (20-7). Using her mark from last week in California, Pace rose to 24th in the triple jump, while Selma Ims is 25th in the 400m hurdles at 57.40 and Nyaluet Diew is 41st in the shot put at 16.22m (53-2.75). On the men’s side, Menin has leapt up to No. 7 in the nation with his Mt. SAC time, while Charlie Staddon is 48th in the 110m hurdles at 13.78.

Running Thursday and Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the Texas Invitational will have live results running here. Meet information can be found here and the full final schedule is updated here.

Featuring 33 UTSA student-athletes on the trip, the meet opens on Thursday for the Roadrunners at 3:30 p.m. with the men’s discus, followed by the women’s high jump at 5 p.m. and running through the women’s 5,000m at 7:55 p.m. Friday’s action kicks off with the women’s hammer throw at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men’s and the triple jumps begin at 11:30 a.m. The women’s 100m hurdles is the first running event for UTSA at 1:35 p.m. and the meet closes traditionally on the 4x400m relay at 3:40 p.m.

One regular season meet remains for the Roadrunners after Austin, as UTSA travels back to College Station for Texas A&M’s Alumni Muster on Saturday, May 3 at E.B. Cushing Stadium. It’s into the postseason beyond that, beginning with a mid-May American Athletic Conference Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
