SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team suffered an 8-2 defeat at the hands of Tarleton on Wednesday in nonconference action at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (19-29, 4-17 The American) fell to the Texans (31-19, 13-8 WAC), with junior Katia Reyes (3-3) taking the loss and Shelby Schultz (14-4) earning the win.
Five 'Runners earned hits in the effort, including freshman Skylar Rucker, newcomer Sabrina Wick, senior Crislyne Moreno, sophomore Madison Lenton, and senior Camryn Robillard.
Tarleton scored three in the third and one in the second, third, and fourth to go up 6-0. They then added two more in the top of the fifth before a wild pitch in the home half pushed Robillard across for an 8-1 score line that extended the contest. In the sixth, senior Lindsey Davis walked and swiped second before coming around to score on a Texans miscue.
Looking to rally in the bottom of the seventh, UTSA loaded up the bases and gave a free pass to Reyes, who sent Robillard home to trim the deficit to five. Another walk for senior Jaylen Prichard sent Wick home, putting the tying run at the plate with two outs.
UTSA will remain at Roadrunner Field, hosting a three-game American Athletic Conference series against Tulsa beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
