SAN ANTONIO — Roadrunners defeat Memphis 12-2 in seven innings in game one of the three-game series on Friday, Apr. 25 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.

Memphis struck first in the second inning as they hit a solo homer, their first hit of the game. In the third, Ty Hodge led off the inning with a double to left center. Garrett Gruell reached on a walk.
Mason Lytle tied the game for UTSA as he singled through the left side to score Hodge. With Gruell on third, Norris McClure hit a sacrifice fly to take the lead for the Roadrunners. Lytle advanced to third on a single hit by Andrew Stucky and was then brought home on a sacrifice fly hit by James Taussig, putting the Roadrunners up 3-1.
McClure led off the fifth inning with a single, and Stucky followed that up with another single. Taussig then blasted his fifth homer of the season to give UTSA a 6-1 lead. Drew Detlefsen singled to follow up the homer.
With Detlefsen on first, Caden Miller hit a double down the left field line, scoring Detlefsen. Jordan Ballin then picked up his first hit of the day, scoring Miller, giving UTSA an 8-1 lead.
The Roadrunners kept their foot on the gas in the sixth. UTSA loaded the bases for Hodge to blast a home run to left field, his fourth home run of the year and the sixth UTSA grand slam of the year.
Memphis added its second run of the game on a groundout in the seventh.
Starting pitcher Zach Royse shined as he threw six innings en route to his sixth win of the season. Royse gave up just four hits, allowing just one run. He also struck out nine batters, which ties his career high.
