‘Runners fall to Mean Green in series opener

DENTON, Texas – The UTSA softball team suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of North Texas in an American Athletic Conference series opener on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium.

The Roadrunners (15-20, 2-11 The American) fell to the Mean Green (26-12, 8-5 The American), with junior Katia Reyes (2-2) being tagged with the loss and Skylar Savage (12-6) picking up the win.

A quartet of ‘Runners posted hits on the afternoon, including Reyes, classmate Madison Hornback and the freshmen tandem of Sabrina Wick and Skylar Rucker.

The ‘Runners struck first, as Wick singled before coming around to score on an RBI groundout by senior Jaylen Prichard. UNT, however, replied swiftly, plating two in the first and three in the second to go up 5-1. They then added four more to their total in the third, and neither team scored again en route to the Mean Green’s 9-1 run-rule victory.

UTSA will wrap things up against North Texas on Sunday, with a doubleheader beginning at noon inside Lovelace Stadium.
