Bonner Bordelon was named UTSA Specialists Coach and Assistant Special Teams Coordinator in February 2025.

Bordelon came to San Antonio following a one-year stint as the special teams coordinator and defensive assistant at Utah Tech in St. George. He had an immediate impact on the Trailblazers’ special teams, which displayed marked improvement in four core statistical categories during the 2024 season compared to the previous year. Utah Tech finished the campaign ranked sixth in the FCS in kickoff return defense (15.39 ypr), which was the program's best average in its NCAA history. In addition, the Trailblazers improved significantly in kickoff return yardage (19.18 ypr in 2024 compared to 12.9 ypr in 2023), as well as in punt return yardage average (7.20 ypr in 2024 compared to -0.4 ypr in 2023). The unit registered a 66-yard kickoff return — the longest return in the program's FCS era — in Utah Tech's upset win over No. 9 Central Arkansas. The squad’s net punt average also increased from 37.01 to 37.16 in 2024.

Prior to his time at Utah Tech, Bordelon was a special teams analyst at TCU for two-plus seasons. During his time in Fort Worth, he helped the Horned Frogs to 18 wins and an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In 2022, TCU went 13-2 overall, posted a perfect 9-0 mark in the Big 12 regular season and advanced to the national championship game following a 51-45 victory over Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. The Horned Frogs averaged 12.04 yards per punt return and 20.16 yards on kickoff returns, as Derius Davis posted a 14.89-yard punt return average and a pair of returns for touchdowns en route to winning the Jet Award as the nation’s top return specialist. Additionally, first-team all-conference kicker Griffin Kell and Luke Laminack combined to make 18 of 21 (85.7%) field goals and 68 of 71 extra points.

The following season, the Horned Frogs posted a 21.09-yard average on kickoff returns and an 11.69 mark for punt returns. Kell made 14 field goals with a long of 57 yards, while Jordy Sandy averaged 42.19 yards per punt with 11 inside the 20-yard line and five of 50-plus yards.

Bordelon got his start in coaching at SMU in 2019 as a personnel/operations assistant before being promoted to offensive analyst for the 2020 season. He then was named the Mustangs’ special teams/defensive analyst in 2021.

A native of Bastrop, Louisiana, Bordelon earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from ULM in 2019.

He is engaged to Bayli Waidelich.
